Success Stories

Jesse Addams – Professional Dancer / Actor

I trained at SS1 for 3 years and in that time I was taught not only the techniques and foundations of dance but also how to be a confident performer and present myself in a professional way. Coming to SS1 I had no background in the basics, but because of the strong push and belief from the teachers I was able to get to where I am today, they provided me with the absolute best. I’ve performed in Macau, on Norwegian Cruise Lines and currently an actor/dancer at Shanghai Disney Resort. Besides that, I’m forever grateful for the lifelong family and friends I’ve made and will always be team SS1.

Annie Fish – Professional Dancer

Sheridan has known me since I was oh so young, starting with her at Paradise Performers Academy way back in the early 90s. She taught me how to shuffle, box step and all the rest. When she decided to open her own studio there was no doubt that I would follow her.

SS1 was just a tiny little studio, but over the years it grew to become one of the most prestigious dance studios on the GC. People wanted and still want, a bit of that amazing style she puts into all her choreography’s. Bye Bye Black Bird was one of my favorite routines. We wore a classic black velvet cat suit with a black bowler hat and yes we won numerous times with that routine. It was a one of a kind.

SS1 took me to the US to dance in Disneyland, gave me my first corporate job dancing the CanCan, dancing in the Indy Parades and small shows in shopping centers.

My career took off when I got my first big show at Jupiter’s Casino in the stage spectacular Zíngara. I then had the pleasure to work at Warner Brothers Movie World dressing up as characters and dancing in their shows. After a year I then auditioned for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and was contacted for (at that time) one of their biggest ships in the fleet, Liberty of the seas. I continued to perform for RCCL for 5 years. 6 different ships 11 different shows.  I had the great opportunity to perform Saturday Night Fever the musical, aerial shows and 2 different ballroom shows and many more.

In 2014 I said goodbye to Cruise ships and hello to “Land Life”, unpacking my bags in a small country in Latin America called Panama.  I taught ballet, Tap, Jazz and musical theatre. I then became interested in the fitness world and started to coach adults in Tae Beat (Tae Keon Do and Dance) and  up until now I am still teaching and coaching.  Performing has been and always will be a huge part of my life and I have many thanks to Sheri for her guidance throughout those first 18 years.  I wouldn’t be the dancer I am without her.

Chase Vollenweider – Professional Dancer / Actor / Choreographer

For one, Sheridans Studio 1 is such a family but without the correct training and preparation from SS1, I wouldn’t feel confident nor would I even be working in the industry today. Over the years I’ve found that Sheridan’s gives dancers the perfect package to go on and make a professional career out of dance. Rather than focusing on being the best dance school, Sheridans focuses on what’s really important once dance school is over. Versatility, theatre/stage etiquette, professionalism, respect, and good people skills.

I’m so aware of my training and how fortunate I’ve been to learn it all. It’s the little things that make the difference between getting hired once, and getting hired again and again and I truly believe SS1 gives you the knowledge and skill you need to be in every room you want.

Amy Doyle – Professional Dancer / Vocalist

I joined Sheridan’s Studio 1 for the two most memorable years of my dance training. Sheri creates a fun, caring and nurturing atmosphere that also prepares you for the rigours of a professional dance career. I am always grateful for the knowledge and expertise that SS1 provided on professional etiquette, auditioning techniques and how to conduct yourself in a performance environment. I feel the insights I learned enabled me to succeed in gaining a performance contract with Celebrity Cruises, where I travelled the world while doing what I love.

I feel fortunate to now do so at home, working on film sets, and in other professional shows. SS1 let me take my love of performance and turn it into my career.

Michaeljon Slinger – Performing Artist Broadway USA / Choreographer

Originally From Queensland, Australia, I moved to the United States in 2004 to attend American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, before attending the B.F.A. Dance program at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, becoming the first Australian to be accepted into either one of these programs. In 2009, I made my Broadway debut as an original cast member and Dance Captain of the revival of WEST SIDE STORY, directed by Arthur Laurents. My career on Broadway continued as both a performer and Dance Captain. I appeared in the Broadway companies of BILLY ELLIOT, HOW TO SUCCEED… (original Company starring Daniel Radcliffe), EVITA (original company starring Ricky Martin), SIDE SHOW (original company), and MATILDA.

Finally my performing career culminated in the role of Dance Captain for the 2017 revival of Broadway’s HELLO DOLLY! Starring Bette Midler. In addition to my ten-year career on Broadway, I performed in numerous productions regionally and throughout New York City. I have also appeared in both film and television; My most notable televised credits include The KENNEDY CENTER HONORS (honoring Jerry Herman), Both the 2011 and 2014 MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE, 2011, 2012, 2017, and 2019 TONY AWARDS, and the 2015 ACADEMY AWARDS. I was also part of the opening number of the major motion picture TED 2, directed by Seth Macfarlane. My career shifted in 2018, when I made my West End debut as Associate Director and Choreographer of the brand new Musical, MYTHIC (Charing Cross Theatre), Directed by Sarah O’Gleby. I have continued to thrive as a Choreographer, most lately working alongside Lorin Latarro, first as Associate Choreographer on Michael Mayer’s world premiere of LA TRAVIATA (The Metropolitan Opera), and following in quick succession as Associate Choreographer and Dance Captain of Fiasco Theatre’s production of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG (Roundabout Theatre) in New York. We are currently collaborating on two Broadway-bound shows serving as Associate choreographer for both ALMOST FAMOUS (Old Globe Theatre), and MRS. DOUBTFIRE (Stephen Sondheim Theatre). I had the great pleasure of meeting Sheridan back in 1998 on the Gold Coast Australia. At the time Sheridan was making the transition from performer to educator, and I feel supremely grateful for the impact our years together had on me. Sheridans passion and experience on stage and with live entertainment really sparked my interest for Musical Theatre and Broadway, and I believe I truly owe so much to her. There was always such an emphasis in my training about style, sophistication and the art of story telling in my dancing. Those three qualities undoubtably translate to the world of Musical Theatre and Broadway, and I genuinely feel our time together was instrumental to my success story. It’s been over 20 years since we first met, and after all these years it’s an honor to be able to call her a friend and a colleague.

Romme Williams – Dancer / Singer / Musical Theatre

As a student I am extremely thankful for the expertise, quality and professional training that Sheridan Studio 1 offers me. It is not only the wonderful tuition I am grateful for but also the amazing opportunities and life experiences that have been presented to me since being part of the studio, including successfully auditioning for the part of ‘Alice’ in the Tim Minchin/ Royal Shakespeare Company award winning musical ‘Matilda’ that toured in Australia and New Zealand.  Learning different styles of dance enabled me to pick up a variety of combinations and choreography, this together with my singing classes prepared me well for the audition process.

I love ‘SS1’, it is my happy place and second home. I am inspired by all my teachers and peers and am grateful to be able to learn in this fun, nurturing and supported environment.  Thank you Miss Sheri.

Ashlee Fisk – Professional Dancer

I started dancing at SS1 when I was 6 years old and continued my training right through until my first professional job when I turned 18. SS1 holds such a special place in my heart and truly feels like my second home. From being a little girl with a big dream to becoming a professional dancer, I would not be where I am today without my SS1 family.

There are obviously so many memories within my 12 years of training at SS1, but the two trips to USA where we trained in LA and danced in Disneyland, and becoming a teacher at the studio for the younger students, are a couple of my personal highlights.

SS1 builds versatile dancers who are confident in all styles and are constantly pushed outside their comfort zone. I am grateful for the encouraging, nurturing & extremely supportive teachers I learned from who guided me through my years of training and believed in me.

At 18, I accepted my first contract with Royal Caribbean Productions as part of an original cast. I have since completed five contracts with RCCL including two take outs. I have visited over 40 countries throughout my dance career so far! I am very fortunate for the experiences and memories I’ve made while working as a professional dancer and am forever thankful for SS1 who continue to support me years on!

I have been a student at Sheridan’s Studio 1 since the age of three and it is just like my second home. The teaching staff are extremely dedicated and supportive and have the utmost passion for providing an encouraging and nurturing environment. They have not only taught me the skills required to be a technically skilled dancer in many genres, I have also been provided with numerous performance opportunities.

With these skills I was fortunate enough to be cast as ‘Alice’ in The Royal Shakespeare Companies renowned musical ‘Matilda’, which toured Australia and New Zealand. Sheridans Studio 1 is the perfect environment for any aspiring dancer. I started my dancing journey at SS1, the studio provided me with a safe and accepting learning environment. At SS1 you become part of a dancing family, the faculty and other students are all so supportive, friendly and helpful. Sheridans Studio taught me core training, stage presence and dance technique. Most importantly I was viewed as my own unique dancer with my own strengths and weaknesses. SS1 offered me the required training and guidance to allow me to pursue a career in the dance industry.
